FAQ ' s Who can drive the vans? Drivers must be between 25 and 70 years old and have held a full UK or EU driving licence for at least 24 months. Drivers must have had no more than one speeding offence or accident in the last 3 years and must not have been refused motor insurance in the past. We also cannot insure professional entertainers or sportspeople. Prices are for one driver only, additional drivers will incur an extra charge of £5 per driver per day. If you do not satisfy these criteria it may be still possible to drive the vans, please contact us to explain your circumstances and we can request special dispensation at an additional charge. How does the insurance work? Insurance is fully comprehensive but there is an excess of £500 per claim payable by the customer. This can be reduced to £0 by paying a Waiver fee of £20 per day - this can be arranged on the day of collection if required.. Are there any restrictions on mileage or where we can go? We are only able to hire for Great Britain travel, Ireland is not permitted. There is no mileage limit on our camper vans. Will I need to hire any extra equipment or is it all included? We include most items but you may wish to include any or all of the following Tom Tom Sat Nav with Bluetooth -
find your way and keeps it legal to use your phone - £10 per hire How many people can
the buses hold and sleep? Bonnie can carry 4 people including the
driver and has a double bed instead of a king-size. Other than that
the layout and guidelines are the same as for Clyde. We have an online booking system which requires a 25% deposit to be paid. You can also use the system just to get availability and price information. All payments must be made with Credit and Debit cards - cash or cheques are not accepted. How do I get the van? We are based in the city centre of Edinburgh, we have a restaurant called Smoke Stack, 53 - 55 Broughton Street where we will go through the paperwork etc. Our standard pick up is 3pm and drop off 11 am, we will always endeavour to get you away earlier when possible but we need to clean and check the vehicles between hires. What If we break down? The vans have full roadside assistance from the AA - a card and phone number is provided. What if we have to cancel our booking If the booking is cancelled more than 4 weeks prior to the booking then only the booking deposit will be due, if it is cancelled within 4 weeks of the booking the full rental will be due. Please note that it is possible that the vehicle you have booked may become unavailable (eg if it is involved in an accident on a prior rental). We will endeavour to supply you with a similar replacement but, due to the specialist nature of the vehicles, this may not be possible in all cases. We will issue a full refund in this case but cannot be held liable for any other losses or incidental expenses caused to the hirer. Can I bring my pet? Bonnie has been designated pet-friendly
while Clyde is pet no-go area (cream leather and paws are a bad
combination). Please note that pets can cause considerable damage to the
vehicle's interior and any damage will be charged to your security deposit
- well behaved pets only please!! Are they difficult to drive, how fast do they go, what is their fuel economy like? Although they are new vehicles with some modern refinements the physical driving experience is fairly unchanged from the 70's. There is no power steering so 3 point turns and parking will have you grunting like Maria Sharopova. The gearbox and steering are less precise than you will be used to but it is amazing how quickly you will adapt your driving style, your car will feel very strange when you go back to it! The other little quirk is the lack of syncromesh between second and first gears - you must always be stationary before changing from 2nd into 1st or there will be a horrible metallic crunch! Despite the modern more powerful engine our buses are still not exactly fast - anything over about 55 will feel like 90 in a modern car and the brick like shape makes windy days particularly challenging. The good news is that you should get between 30 and 35mpg, much better than in the older vehicles.
